__NOTOC__ Groups are the primary form of social organization in Second Life. You can join a Group either on your own initiative, or by receiving a Membership Invitation from a Group Member. You can also create and manage a Group of your own, as described in Group Management. ==Group Information== Information about a Group is given in the Group Information Window. For various ways to open this window, see: Group Information Window. The information shown includes the list of Group Members, the Group Charter, the cost of joining and the Content Type associated with that group. To see which groups a Resident belongs to, look at their Profile. ==Joining a Group on your own Initiative== The procedure for joining a group depends on whether the group is open or closed. Anyone can easily join an open Group, but to join a closed Group you must be invited by a Group Officer. To join an open Group: *Open the Group Information Window (see above) *If the group is open enrollment, the "Join" button appears above the Owners and Visible Members listing, along with any cost associated with joining the group *Click the Join button to join the group. To join a closed Group: **Open the Group Information Window *If the group is closed enrollment, the "Apply" button appears above the Owners and Visible Members listing, along with any cost associated with joining the group * An officer of the group must then invite you to join (as described in Membership Invitation) Note that if the Group has an enrollment fee, it appears on the Join(L$) button as well as in the Group Information Window. When you join a Group, the Member Title associated with your role in that Group appears over your Avatar Name. ==Receiving a Membership Invitation== When another Resident sends you a Membership Invitation a blue message window appears in the top right of your User Interface. This blue window also shows any costs associated with joining the Group. If before joining you would like to know more about the Group, click the "Info" button to open the Group Information Window. To join the Group, click the "Join" button. Another window then appears confirming that you have been added to the Group. To decline the invitation, click the "Decline" button. ==Group Titles== All Group Members obtain a Member Title, depending on the Member's role in the group. When you join a Group, you are usually give the default Member Title held by ordinary Group Members. When you join a new Group, your Member Title in that Group automatically becomes your Active Title. Your Active Title appears Inworld above your Avatar Name. For more information on Member Titles and how to activate or deactivate them, see: Member Title. ==Number of Groups you can belong to== You can belong to a maximum of 25 groups at any one time. ==Creating and Managing a Group== For information on how to create and manage a Group, see: Group Management. ==Leaving a Group== To leave a group: *Open the Group Information Window (for various ways to open this window, see: Group Information Window) *Click the "Leave" button When you leave a Group: *All trace of your membership disappears from the list of Group Members *You become ineligible for any pending group dividends *You lose the ability to edit, change, or sell land held by the group *Any land contribution you have given a group (to pay for group-owned land) is returned to you *Group notices and voting proposals that mention your name continue to exist for the usual timespan ==See Also== *Group Information Window *Group Member *Member Title *Membership Invitation *Group Management.
